Abdul Azeez AbdulRahmon, a student from Oriwu Senior Model College in Ikorodu, has been crowned the One Day Governor of Lagos State following his victory in the 20th Edition of the Spelling Bee Competition.
Today, he made his official visit to the Lagos House in Marina, marking a significant milestone in his academic journey and a proud moment for his school and community.
Accompanying Abdul Azeez on this occasion were his fellow winners: Master Oki Sewanu, who assumed the role of One Day Deputy Governor, representing Ansar-Ud-Deen Senior Grammar School in Badagry, and Miss Saheed Alimot-Odere, the One Day Secretary to the State Government, a student from Jubilee Model Senior Grammar School in Coker Aguda.
Together, they symbolize the bright future and potential of the youth in Lagos State.
During the visit, Lagos State Governor Dr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the students, emphasizing the importance of the Spelling Bee Competition as a platform that nurtures confidence and enhances vocabulary.
He noted that such initiatives are crucial in shaping effective communicators who can contribute positively to society.
“This competition has not only tested your spelling prowess but has also equipped you with skills that will serve you well in your academic and professional pursuits,” he stated.
Further enriching the event, the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, took a moment to highlight various initiatives spearheaded by her office aimed at promoting the welfare of children and youth.
These include the War Against Drug Abuse, the Fight Against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, the Lagos Boy Child Initiative, and the School Support Initiative, all designed to foster a safe and conducive environment for learning and growth.
In her closing remarks, Dr. Sanwo-Olu encouraged the students to remain steadfast in their academic endeavors, assuring them that the government is committed to providing a supportive and nurturing educational environment for all children.
“Your success is our priority, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure you have every opportunity to thrive,” she affirmed.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Tutor General/Permanent Secretary of Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye, and officials from the Office of Education Quality Assurance, among other top government officials. Their presence underscored the importance of educational achievements and the collective effort to uplift the youth in Lagos State.
