The Management of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has announced the appointment of Mr. Ahmed Ojo Lawal as the Acting Director of its Internal Audit Department. Lawal, a Chartered Accountant with a wealth of experience in audit and financial management assumes this new role following a robust career in both the private and public sectors. His appointment, effective from September 11, 2024, follows the impending retirement from service of the Director of Audit , Mr Peter Akindele who has commenced his terminal leave.
A native of Owo in Ondo State, completed his secondary education at Owo High School, where he graduated in 1979 with Grade One Distinction. He went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Lagos in 1995. Driven by his passion for continuous learning, he pursued a Master’s degree in Business Administration at the University of Ado-Ekiti (now Ekiti State University), which he completed in 1999. In 2018, he earned the title of Doctoral Fellow from the International Certified Risk Management Professionals (DR. ICRMP), United Kingdom, cementing his expertise in Risk Management.
Lawal began his professional career at Pelemo & Pelemo & Co (Chartered Accountants) in 1995 as an Audit Trainee and quickly rose through the ranks to become an Audit Manager. His experience in auditing and financial analysis led him to join FUTA in 2005 as a Senior Internal Auditor.
Through dedication and professionalism, he steadily climbed the ranks, becoming a Deputy Director in 2021. His vast experience and commitment to upholding integrity in financial management have earned him respect both within and outside the University.
In addition to his academic and professional qualifications, Mr. Lawal is a member of numerous prestigious professional bodies, including the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Institute of Cost Management (ICM), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCAI), Institute of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Association of Chartered System Accountants (ACSA), and International Certified Risk Management Professionals (ICRMP).
Lawal, 63,0who is married and blessed with children, expresses his gratitude to the University’s Management for the opportunity and pledges to continue his contribution to the internal fiscal control , growth and financial integrity of FUTA.
