In the wake of the tragic building collapse on Amusu Street in Iganmu, Tokunbo Wahab, Honourable Commissioner of the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources in Lagos State, has issued a poignant statement to stress the need for stringent regulatory measures and community cooperation.
“The unfortunate building collapse on Amusu Street, Iganmu is a sobering reminder of why we must remain firm in our regulatory actions and proactive measures,” Wahab remarked.
He recognized the gravity of the incident, noting that it serves as a critical alert to the dangers posed by inadequate safety compliance.
Wahab further emphasized the importance of public support in government initiatives aimed at preventing future tragedies.
“While this incident is deeply regrettable, it highlights the critical need for cooperation from all members of the public in supporting government efforts aimed at preventing such tragedies,” he stated.
He clarified the intent behind the government’s safety policies, asserting, “Our policies are not designed to punish indiscriminately but to protect lives and ensure the structural integrity of our environments.”
