The Namibian government has reached out to Nigeria’s Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for support.
This collaboration seeks to tap into Nigeria’s extensive experience and success in combating corruption across the African continent.
Citing Nigeria’s leadership in the fight against corruption, Namibia expressed a keen interest in learning from the West African nation’s substantial achievements.
A statement released by the ICPC on Saturday highlighted that the partnership aims to facilitate training opportunities and share valuable expertise between the ICPC and Namibia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The appeal for assistance was made during a recent visit by Namibia’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Humphrey Geise, to the ICPC headquarters in Abuja. During this pivotal meeting, Geise commended Nigeria’s esteemed role in Africa’s ongoing battle against corruption, stating, “Countries like Namibia need to benefit from Nigeria’s experience and expertise.”
Emphasizing the urgency of collaboration, Geise added that Namibia’s ACC is particularly eager to learn from Nigeria’s successes, especially in recovering stolen assets through the mechanisms established by the ICPC and the EFCC.
This partnership signals a proactive step by Namibia to strengthen its anti-corruption framework and enhance its capabilities in addressing corruption-related challenges.
