The family of the late Alhaja Rukayat Gawat-Oyefeso, a beloved Islamic singer, has scheduled her Fidau prayer for Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
The solemn Islamic rite will be held following her untimely passing on September 23, 2024, after a brief illness.
She was laid to rest in her husband’s hometown, Ijebu-Aiyepe, Ogun State, in adherence to Islamic customs, surrounded by her loved ones.
The Gawat family, along with her husband’s family, the Oyefesos, have respectfully requested privacy as they prepare for the Fidau and navigate their grief.
The announcement was made by her brother, Jubril Gawat, who currently serves as the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
He shared the news on his official X and TikTok accounts on Thursday night.
In a touching statement, the family expressed their heavy hearts while acknowledging the divine will.
“It is with heavy hearts, but in total submission to the Will of Almighty Allah (SWT) that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, wife, and mother, Alhaja Rukayat Gawat-Oyefeso, who returned to Allah on Monday, September 23, 2024, after a brief illness. Fidau prayer will be held for her on Tuesday, October 1, 2024,” they said.
Rukayat’s departure has left a significant void not only in her family but also among her fans and the less privileged whom she fervently supported through her philanthropic efforts.
The family urged the public to respect their privacy during this time of mourning. “We kindly ask that the family be allowed to continue directing the final rites,” they stated.
As they expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and love, the family emphasized the importance of privacy in their journey toward healing.
“We greatly appreciate the overwhelming love and support we have received during these difficult times. However, we request that our privacy be completely respected this time as we grieve and find the needed strength to bring closure to this irreparable loss,” the statement concluded.
Understanding Fidau
A Fidau prayer is a crucial Islamic ritual performed for the deceased, seeking Allah’s mercy and forgiveness for their soul. It typically takes place days after burial, involving the recitation of Quranic verses and supplications.
This prayer not only honors the deceased but also provides solace to the bereaved family.
