President Bola Tinubu has officially confirmed plans to reshuffle his cabinet in the near future.
The announcement comes as part of efforts to enhance governance and accountability within his administration.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, disclosed the president’s intentions during a briefing with State House reporters on Wednesday.
While the exact timing of the reshuffle remains uncertain, Onanuga emphasized that it is a confirmed decision.
“Tinubu has expressed his intent to rejig his cabinet,” Onanuga stated. “Let me tell you, I don’t have a timeline. The president has expressed his desire to reshuffle his cabinet, and he will do it. I don’t know whether it will happen before October 1, but he will surely do it. That’s all I can say. He hasn’t provided a specific timeline, but he has made it clear that it will happen.”
Further insights were provided by O’Tega Ogra, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Digital/New Media. He clarified that the reshuffle will not be arbitrary but rather grounded in empirical evidence and performance evaluations of the current ministers. This decision aligns with President Tinubu’s commitment to accountability and effectiveness in governance.
“The President’s decision to reshuffle his cabinet is grounded in empirical evidence,” Ogra explained. “During the ministers’ retreat, he mentioned that there would be periodic reviews, and the outcomes of these reviews would guide his final decisions.”
Ogra also indicated that the president has already received various performance reports, stating, “I know he has received several reports, and as Mr. Onanuga said, when he is ready, he will act.”
