The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the elections, DIG Frank Mba, has activated a comprehensive post-election security strategy aimed at maintaining public safety and order.
This initiative includes a Show of Force Exercise designed to bolster citizens’ confidence and assure them of the police’s readiness to address any potential threats to security.
DIG Mba emphasized the importance of this strategy, stating, “Our Show of Force Exercise is intended to boost the confidence of citizens and to reassure them of the readiness of the Force to respond appropriately to any possible threat to public safety and security in the State.”
In line with these efforts, enhanced security deployments have been ordered around Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) facilities, key stakeholders involved in the election, and other critical infrastructure throughout Edo State.
The Nigeria Police Force is also calling on citizens to uphold peace and abide by the law during this sensitive period.
“We urge citizens to remain peaceful and law-abiding while going about their endeavours,” a spokesperson noted, while also issuing a caution against any actions that could disrupt the tranquility of the State. The Force reassures the public that they are “prepared now more than ever to ensure continuous peace in the State.”
This proactive approach by the police aims to foster an environment of safety and stability as the election process concludes, ensuring that the voices of the citizens are heard without disturbance.
