That year, When I contemplated reaching out to Pastor Poju Oyemade, I was filled with skepticism. Being a Muslim, I was uncertain whether my request for assistance from a pastor would be well-received.
Despite my initial hesitation, it was my student, who knew Pastor Poju personally, that encouraged me to proceed.
He spoke highly of Pastor Poju’s generosity, yet I remained doubtful, expressing my concern to the student that such a prominent man of God might be difficult to approach.
My student provided me with a direct email address, which was functional at the time, and encouraged me to express my needs. I proceeded to compose a detailed email, outlining my request, and sent it off with the hope that it would be considered.
At that time, I was teaching in a school that lacked resources and opportunities for substantial professional development. I was eager to enhance my teaching skills and sought financial assistance to attend a training programme that promised to broaden my professional horizons.
In my correspondence with Pastor Poju, I was transparent about my religious background, making it clear that I am a practising Muslim. I believed that his benevolence transcended religious boundaries.
To my surprise, Pastor Poju not only acknowledged my email but also requested verification of my intended participation in the training programme. I promptly provided the necessary documentation. Within a mere twenty minutes, I received confirmation from one of his aides, along with the funds necessary to attend the training.
The insights and skills I gained from this training were invaluable and ignited a desire for further professional development.
Even after eight years, Pastor Poju’s generous gesture remains deeply etched in my memory, and I continue to pray for his well-being.
