Officers from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) successfully prevented a 59-year-old man from jumping into the lagoon on the Third Mainland Bridge today around noon.
The man, identified as Yemi from Ilasa, Lagos, reportedly expressed feelings of being overwhelmed by life’s challenges.
While on routine patrol, RRS bike riders noticed Yemi’s distress and swiftly intervened to stop him from taking the drastic step. Commander of the RRS, CSP Shola Jejeloye, provided immediate counseling to Yemi, emphasizing the importance of mental health support and the need for individuals to seek help during difficult times.
“Yemi has been placed in protective custody while we await the arrival of his family members, ensuring he receives the necessary care and support,” Commander Jejeloye stated.
This incident highlights the crucial role of the RRS in maintaining public safety and their commitment to addressing not only immediate threats but also the underlying issues that lead individuals to consider self-harm.
