The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refuted media reports claiming that former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello is currently in their custody.
In a statement signed by Dele Oyewale, Head, Media & Publicity on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, the commission emphasized that these reports are incorrect, clarifying, “Bello is not in its custody.”
Despite the denial of his detention, the EFCC has confirmed that Bello is still wanted in connection with substantial allegations of money laundering, amounting to a staggering N80.2 billion.
The commission reiterated that a warrant for his arrest remains active, stating, “Bello, already declared wanted by the Commission for alleged N80.2 billion money laundering charges, remains wanted with a subsisting warrant for his arrest.”
This development has sparked discussions regarding the ongoing investigations into the former governor’s financial dealings.
