In a press statement released on September 15, 2024, Dangote has addressed what it describes as a “misleading and mischievous” statement made by the NNPCL spokesperson, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, regarding the pricing of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
The statement allegedly claimed that Dangote sells PMS to NNPCL at N898 per litre, a claim the company vehemently disputes.
“This statement is deliberately aimed at undermining the milestone achievement recorded today towards addressing energy insufficiency and insecurity, which has bedeviled the economy in the past 50 years,” said Anthony Chiejina, Dangote’s Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer.
Dangote urged Nigerians to disregard the “malicious statement” and to await a formal announcement on pricing from the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.
This announcement is expected to commence on October 1, 2024, taking into account that the current stock of crude was procured in dollars.
Chiejina emphasized, “It should also be noted that we sold the products to NNPCL in dollars with a lot of savings against what they are currently importing.”
He assured the public that this initiative aims to ensure that “there will be petrol in every local government area of the country regardless of their remote nature.”
Furthermore, he reiterated Dangote’s commitment to providing quality petroleum products, stating, “We assure Nigerians of availability of quality petroleum product and putting an end to the endemic fuel scarcity in the country.”
