A pastor from the Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) Church, Victor Olusegun, has been remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre following allegations of impregnating a 15-year-old girl in Ondo State.
The 31-year-old cleric was brought before the magistrates’ court in Akure, the state capital, by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Mr. Olusegun faces serious accusations, including allegations of impregnating five other minors prior to his arrest in Oba Ile, located in the Akure North Local Government Area.
He was arraigned on a one-count charge of unlawful sexual intercourse, with the alleged crime occurring on July 24, 2024.
According to the prosecutor, David Ebiruku, the pastor committed an offense that violates section 31(1) of the Child Rights Laws of Ondo State 2007, which is punishable under section 31(2) of the same laws.
The charge sheet detailed the allegations: “That you, Olusegun Victor, male, 31 years old, at about 1 pm on July 24, 2024, at No 73 Owode, off Airport Road, Oba-Ile, Akure within Akure magisterial district, did commit a felony, to wit, unlawful sexual intercourse on a minor, (name withheld), 15 years, thereby committed an offence contrary to section 31(1) of the Child Rights’ Laws of Ondo State 2007 and punishable under section 31(2) of the same laws.”
During the court proceedings, the suspect’s plea was not entered, as the prosecutor recommended that the magistrate remand him pending further investigation. Alex Odunayo Olademehin, the counsel representing the minor, requested additional time to respond to the remand application.
Magistrate Taiwo Lebi granted the request and subsequently ordered Mr. Olusegun to be remanded at the correctional centre. The court has adjourned the hearing to September 19, 2024, for discussions regarding the bail application.
