President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointments of new Directors-General for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS).
This significant reshuffle aims to enhance the operational effectiveness of these critical intelligence agencies amid ongoing security challenges in the nation.
Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed has been appointed as the new Director-General of the NIA, stepping into a role that requires extensive expertise and a deep understanding of Nigeria’s intelligence landscape.
With a distinguished career in the foreign service since joining the NIA in 1995, Ambassador Mohammed brings a wealth of experience to his new position. He has held various roles within the agency, culminating in his promotion to the rank of Director.
His prior experience includes serving as the head of the Nigerian mission to Libya and various postings in countries such as North Korea, Pakistan, and Sudan, as well as positions at the State House in Abuja. A proud alumnus of Bayero University, Kano, Ambassador Mohammed graduated in 1990.
Taking the helm at the DSS is Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, who has risen through the ranks to reach the position of Assistant Director-General.
Ajayi has held several key roles within the agency, including State Director in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi. His extensive experience and deep understanding of the DSS’s operations position him well to lead the agency in addressing Nigeria’s pressing security issues.
These appointments come on the heels of the resignation of the former Directors-General of both agencies, signaling a new chapter in Nigeria’s approach to national security. President Tinubu has expressed his confidence in the newly appointed leaders, urging them to leverage their backgrounds and experiences to reposition the NIA and DSS for improved performance. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with sister agencies and alignment with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) to tackle the multifaceted security challenges facing the country.
In his statement, the President extended gratitude to the outgoing Directors-General for their dedicated service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavours.
