Abbyzworld Empowerment Foundation has hosted a transformative youth conference in Lagos, themed “Discovering Your Identity.”
The event, held on Saturday, was a landmark initiative aimed at equipping young individuals with the tools and insights necessary to navigate the complexities of personal identity and life’s challenges.
Abigael Taiwo, the convener and founder of Abbyzworld Empowerment Foundation, stated that the conference aimed to help youth uncover their inherent identities.
In her keynote address, Abigael stressed that identity is an intrinsic part of every human being, and the journey to discovering it is a gradual, revelatory process.
“Discovering your identity is not an overnight task. It requires a series of revelations and a clear understanding of oneself,” Abigael remarked.
She also highlighted practical steps for identifying one’s true self, including recognizing personal passions, classifying talents, and defining core values such as honesty, integrity, and commitment.
Lagos-based education expert, George Agbede, elaborated on the importance of planning in the journey of self-discovery.
Agbede emphasized that effective planning could significantly propel individuals toward realizing their goals.
“Planning is paramount in navigating the discovery stage. Embrace uncertainty, remain open-minded, and turn failures into stepping stones for success,” Agbede advised.
He encouraged the youth to seek new experiences through travel, volunteering, and continuous learning, advocating for a systematic approach to personal development.
Idowu Omolabake, an assistant pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and a respected educator, tackled the issue of identity crisis.
Omolabake identified common symptoms such as confusion and withdrawal, attributing them to emotional pains and unmet needs.
She urged participants to embrace their backgrounds and uniqueness, fostering a positive and optimistic attitude.
“To overcome identity crisis, it is crucial to purify yourself emotionally and spiritually, and always express gratitude,” Omolabake advised.
Daniel Asake, a 500-level nursing student at Lead City University, provided a youthful perspective on building self-consciousness. He urged participants to avoid comparison with others, which often lead to confusion and jealousy.
“Your identity is your unique path to greatness. Stay focused on your journey and believe in your potential to achieve remarkable things,” Asake encouraged.
The conference also featured a gender-based question and answer session, fostering an inclusive dialogue on identity issues.
The highlight of the event was the launch of “Discovering Your Identity,” a book authored by Abigael Taiwo. The book was unveiled by a distinguished guest, Mr. Aniko, and supported by other notable attendees.
The event was graced by several prominent personalities, including the former Director of the Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mrs Rose Okpere among others.
The conference provided a valuable platform for networking and knowledge exchange, leaving a lasting impact on all attendees.
