The Lagos State government, through the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, has once again proven that it stands by its promise to leave no one behind.
In an event held at the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement’s Conference Room, cheques were presented to 150 beneficiaries as part of the Sanwo-Olu Cares Social Intervention programme.
Dr. Tajudeen Afolabi, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, highlighted the essence of this initiative.
He remarked, “Every eligible and vulnerable citizen has a right to receive the support they need to overcome financial challenges and contribute to the State’s economic growth. Hence today’s event symbolises Mr. Governor’s dedication to his No One Will Be Left Behind philosophy. This is just the beginning of our commitment to ensuring that every Lagosian has the opportunity to thrive. Sanwo-Olu will continue to listen, understand, and respond to the needs of Lagosians.”
Afolabi also elaborated on the transparent and inclusive selection process of beneficiaries, stressing that there was no discrimination. “All recipients were selected based on their application, with detailed financial needs and how they planned to expend the funds. Each beneficiary will be receiving a cheque of varying amounts, tailored to their individual need,” he explained.
Among the beneficiaries was Mrs. Esther Akinbamire, who expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Lagos State Government. She shared, “The financial aid will be used for the medical expenses of my son, who is in dire need of urgent medical surgery.”
She also extended her appreciation to Hon. Ruth Lijrin, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Civic Engagement, for her prompt assistance.
Another beneficiary, Mrs. Naomi Onigbanjo, echoed similar sentiments.
“The assistance came at a time I needed it most, and I am incredibly grateful to be selected among many applicants,” she said.
Mr. Gani Dada, a retiree, also voiced his gratitude, stating that the financial relief would help him sort out his medical bills and purchase necessary medication.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Ms. Sholabomi Shasore; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Civic Engagement, Hon. Ruth Lijrin; and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Political and Legislative, Hon. Saidi Balogun, along with Directors and staff of the Office.
