A devastating multiple-vehicle collision on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos State resulted in the tragic death of a dispatch rider on Friday.
The accident, which occurred near the Chevron end of the expressway, also left two other individuals with serious leg injuries.
According to a statement from Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the collision involved several vehicles, including a high-capacity bus with the license plate AKD 952 XZ, a KIA RIO car with the number plate BDG 853 DA, and a motorcycle with plate number KTU 695 QK.
Describing the sequence of events leading to the crash, Taofiq stated, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the high-capacity ‘T&M’ bus lost control due to brake failure while speeding, colliding with an oncoming ‘KIA RIO’ vehicle.” The force of the impact caused the KIA RIO to crash into the dispatch motorcycle traveling in the opposite direction. Unfortunately, the dispatch rider was pronounced dead at the scene, while the two injured individuals were rushed to a nearby hospital by a good Samaritan passing by.
In light of the tragic incident, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, expressing sympathy for the injured victims. “The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and sympathised with the injured victims,” Taofiq reported.
Bakare-Oki further urged all motorists, particularly those driving high-capacity buses, to ensure their vehicles are in proper working condition before embarking on any journey.
