Yetunde Toriola, a Nigerian woman, has given birth to a healthy baby girl after enduring a staggering seven-year-long pregnancy.
This miraculous story was shared by the Demi Care Foundation on their Facebook page on Tuesday.
The foundation statement reads:
“7 years after carrying a monster fibroid weighing 18KG. She was operated and alas, a 5-month-old fetus was discovered in her womb. The fetus was carefully protected and 4 months after, we have a bouncing baby girl delivered yesterday!”
The incredible journey of Yetunde began seven years ago when she believed she was pregnant. However, subsequent scans revealed that what was initially thought to be a pregnancy was actually a massive fibroid. This medical condition caused her abdomen to protrude, leading to the unfortunate departure of her husband.
Demi Care Foundation recounted in its May 27th, 2024 post: “Remember we said in our post on May 27th, 2024, that Yetunde insisted she was pregnant 7 years ago but later scan revealed it is no longer pregnancy but fibroid which she has been carrying all the years. Her husband left her due to this medical problem. A scan was done at the early stage of the pregnancy which revealed she was pregnant and her tummy protruded which she carried for 7 years until our attention was brought to her predicament. She was mobilized to the hospital in May.”
The breakthrough came when a compassionate doctor decided to operate. The statement continues: “This kind Doctor removed the 18KG fibroid and preserved the baby. According to him, the baby’s heartbeat appears normal. He protected the baby and removed only the fibroid. The doctor came out of the theatre to say, this is strange. He also said caesarean section will be carried out in 14 weeks time when the baby is matured to be brought out.”
The caesarean section was successfully performed yesterday, resulting in the birth of a beautiful baby girl. Demi Care Foundation shared their joy: “Dear God sent, Yetunde was wheeled for Caesarian section yesterday and she has put to bed and it is A GIRL!!!!”
However, the foundation also appealed for financial assistance to cover the remaining hospital bills: “We have a balance bill of N650,000 naira to pay and we are counting on you. Thank you and God bless you all. Please find below our account number to help us. We have baby items already which we will take to her. We are only left with the balance of 650,000 for the hospital. And maybe some feeding support for the new mom.”
