Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially declared Tuesday, August 20, 2024, as a work-free day for all public servants in the state.
This proclamation is part of the festivities surrounding the annual Isese Day celebration, a day dedicated to honoring indigenous traditions and practices.
The announcement was made public through an official circular signed by the Head of Service, Bode Agoro, under reference number CIR/HOS/124/Vol.1/66.
The circular emphasizes the state government’s commitment to supporting traditional institutions and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Lagos.
In the circular, it was stated: “It is hereby notified for general information that this Year’s Isese Day Celebration will hold on Tuesday, 20th August 2024. In emphasizing commitment to give necessary support to traditional institutions, as well as enhance the promotion of indigenous tradition by preserving cultural heritage, Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has approved that Tuesday, 20th August, 2024, be declared a Work-Free Day for Public Servants in the State.”
As a result of this declaration, all public offices, including courts, will remain closed on the designated day, allowing traditional worshippers to fully participate in the celebrations. Work will resume on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 8:00 a.m., ensuring a smooth transition back to regular business operations.
Governor Sanwo-Olu’s initiative reflects a growing recognition of the importance of cultural practices in fostering community spirit and unity, providing a platform for the people of Lagos to celebrate their heritage. All Accounting Officers have been instructed to disseminate this information widely to ensure that the public is well-informed about the upcoming holiday.
