The Chairman of Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon. Rasaq Ajala (HRA), has asserted that the autonomy granted to local governments will significantly contribute to restoring order in Nigeria.
HRA made this declaration during an appearance on TV Continental Saturday Breakfast programme.
According to him, local government autonomy will not only mitigate criminal activities but also address various challenges the nation currently faces.
“If the local government functions effectively, it will reduce the frequency with which chairmen seek assistance from state governors. The criminality in the country stems from the failure of local governments,” HRA stated.
He praised the initiative taken by President Tinubu-led administration, deeming it beneficial and the best course of action.
“The peace we experience in Lagos State is a result of the collaboration between the state government and local governments,” he added.
HRA emphasized the importance of involving grassroots stakeholders when introducing policies.
“As chairmen, it is imperative to engage youth, religious leaders, CDA chairmen, market leaders, and other stakeholders. This is essential for seamless administration,” he said.
Reflecting on his tenure, HRA noted that all promises made under his “Four Big Things in Four Years” agenda have been fulfilled.
“These promises have been realized through various programmes, policies, projects, bursaries, scholarships, and other initiatives,” he remarked.
He also highlighted that additional projects are forthcoming, asserting that the local government autonomy and the financial reengineering led by President Tinubu will increase revenue streams for local governments. “I can assure you that this revenue will be used judiciously,” he pledged.
In closing, HRA advised his fellow local government chairmen to utilize their revenues responsibly.
“My passionate appeal to my colleagues is that they should make the president proud by spending their revenues for the intended purposes,” he concluded.
