The Ibadan Descendants’ Union (IDU), USA, has officially unveiled the schedule for its highly anticipated 12th Biennial National Convention, set to take place from September 20th to 22nd, 2024.
This grand event, themed “Celebrating and Embracing Our Cultural Pride in the Diaspora,” will be hosted at the Grace Event Centre, located at 15401 Bellaire Boulevard, Houston, TX, 77083.
In a statement released by the IDU National Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sola Bolomope, the convention promises to be a vibrant celebration of Ibadan heritage.
The Special Guest of Honour for this year’s event is His Excellency, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde, the Executive Governor of Oyo State.
Additionally, the revered monarch of Ibadan, Imperial Majesty Oba Owolabi Akinloyè Olakuleyin, Ige-Olakuleyin I, will grace the event as the Royal Father.
Since its inception in 2003, IDU, USA, has been a pivotal force in promoting the social, cultural, academic, and economic growth of Ibadan and its people. The biennial conventions have historically served as platforms for discussing developmental issues affecting Ibadan.
For instance, the 2018 convention focused on urban planning and infrastructural development, while the 2020 virtual convention addressed health and wellness amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2022 convention centered on educational development and youth empowerment, emphasizing scholarship programs and mentorship opportunities.
This year’s convention is packed with exciting moments for IDU members and guests alike. Renowned entertainer Alhaja Muinat Ejide will be performing, adding a festive flair to the event.
A significant highlight will be the flag-off and fundraising ceremony for the construction of the Ibadan House in Houston, Texas, a project that underscores the union’s commitment to preserving and promoting Ibadan’s cultural heritage.
Under the visionary leadership of National President Oloye Abiola Iyiola, who also holds the distinguished title of Ajia Olubadan of Ibadanland, IDU, USA, continues to make impactful contributions to both the local and global Ibadan community.
