Nigerian human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has levelled serious accusations against Governor Dapo Abiodun, alleging rampant job racketeering within his administration.
Sowore took to his Facebook page on Wednesday to voice his concerns, branding Abiodun as “the worst governor” Nigeria has ever seen.
Sowore’s scathing indictment of the Ogun State governor was unrelenting.
He stated, “The Ogun State Governor (Eleyi of Ogun State, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun – MFR CON. MAN) is probably the worst governor in Nigeria today; he wakes up daily to rob and loot his state and now adds extortion of unemployed youths to his resume.”
His remarks reflect a growing discontent among citizens regarding the state’s governance.
The crux of Sowore’s allegations centers on a controversial policy that requires youth seeking employment in Ogun State to pay a non-refundable fee of N10,000 to apply for jobs.
He denounced this practice as unprecedented and an egregious form of extortion.
“This extortion must be cancelled immediately, and ALL refunds made,” he demanded, emphasizing the urgent need for accountability and transparency within the state’s employment processes.
In a call to action, Sowore urged unemployed youth in Ogun State to participate in a significant protest scheduled for August 10, 2024.
“We are ALSO calling on all Ogun state unemployed youth to troop out on August 10, 2024, for a special edition and grand finale of the first ten days of #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria revolt #DaysofRage in Kuto, Abeokuta in Ogun state. This action also would bring attention to the terrible infrastructure conditions in the state,” Sowore wrote.
