Zimbabwe is set to commence the production of steel billets at the newly established Manhize Iron and Steel Plant in just one week.
This marks the beginning of the first phase of operations at the Dinson Iron and Steel plant, promising to be a game-changer for the nation’s steel industry.
The groundbreaking announcement was made during a high-profile visit by a delegation from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat, who toured the state-of-the-art facility this past Friday. The plant, strategically located at the confluence of the Midlands, Mashonaland East, and Mashonaland West provinces, is poised to become a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s industrial sector.
Under the first phase of its ambitious development plan, the Manhize Iron and Steel Plant is projected to produce an impressive 600,000 tonnes of iron and steel annually. This substantial output is expected to meet both domestic demand and bolster exports, positioning Zimbabwe as a significant player in the regional steel market.
The production of steel billets, a crucial intermediate form of steel, will lay the foundation for further industrial processes, including the manufacturing of finished steel products. This development is anticipated to create numerous job opportunities, boost local economies, and contribute to the overall economic growth of the country.
The Manhize plant represents a significant investment in Zimbabwe’s future, underscoring the government’s commitment to revitalizing its industrial base. The facility is equipped with cutting-edge technology and adheres to stringent environmental standards, ensuring sustainable and efficient production processes.
