The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition at a residential address in Mushin, Lagos.
The discovery was made following a meticulously planned raid, which also led to the arrest of two suspects. Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Command, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Thursday.
He detailed that the operation was initiated based on a tip-off received about the presence of armed individuals on Agoro Street, Mushin.
Acting swiftly, officers from the tactical team based in Surulere responded to the distress call around 1:00 AM and apprehended two suspects: Sherrif Mustapha, 42, and Suturat Lateef, 28. A third suspect managed to evade capture and is currently at large.
“The suspects led the police to 1 Moshalashi Street, Mushin, where a significant cache of weapons was recovered,” Hundeyin reported. The items seized during the raid include two AK-47 rifles, one K2 Assault rifle, one Red Rufer rifle, three pump-action rifles, two locally made single-barrel pistols, five magazines, 57 live cartridges, 70 rounds of 5.56 live ammunition, 27 rounds of 9mm ammunition, one expended 5.56 ammunition, one dagger, three walkie-talkies, and nine international passports. “This discovery underscores our commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents in Lagos State,” Hundeyin remarked. He also noted that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the operation and to apprehend any additional suspects involved.
