The Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment recently organized a capacity enhancement program for members of the informal sector, specifically tradesmen and artisans. The aim of the program is to improve work performances and contribute to the industrial development of the state.
Under the guidance of the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Hon. Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe, the training program was officially launched at Government Technical College Agidingbi, Ikeja Lagos.
This initiative showcases the state government’s commitment to capacity development for practicing tradesmen and artisans, ensuring their competitiveness in Lagos State.
The up-skilling program aligns with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda, which focuses on an all-inclusive government. It aims to empower artisans and tradesmen by providing modern equipment and training to enhance their skills and productivity.
Hon. Ajigbotafe emphasized that the Ministry has already empowered thousands of tradesmen and artisans through similar programs. This particular training will span eight weeks and will be conducted simultaneously in three government technical colleges located in Agidingbi, Ikotun, and Ikorodu. The training days for traders are scheduled on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, while artisans will attend on Saturdays and Sundays.
A total of 1,200 artisans will be empowered with working tools through this up-skilling program. The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board, Ms. Ronke Azeez, confirmed that the agency will provide the necessary facilities for the training program.
This initiative not only aims to enhance the economic empowerment of traders and artisans but also seeks to reduce tension in homes and address social violence in the state. By equipping individuals with the necessary skills and resources, the Lagos State Government is paving the way for a more prosperous and inclusive society.
