The Take it Back Movement (TIB) has formally requested the use of Eagles Square in Abuja for their upcoming #EndBadGovernance protest. The protest, dubbed #DaysOfRage, is scheduled to begin on August 1st and continue through August 10th, 2024, with the possibility of extension.
The letter, addressed to Mr. Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, highlights the group’s intent to use the national landmark as a central point for Nigerians demanding better governance.
The TIB emphasized the significance of Eagles Square as a symbol of national unity and a suitable venue for such a historic protest.
The TIB’s request includes several logistical and infrastructural needs to ensure the safety and comfort of the protesters.
These requirements involve a continuous 24-hour power supply, adequate toilet facilities, water, and security services. The group also requested that the protesters be treated with the same respect and courtesy typically accorded to foreign and local dignitaries who have used the space in the past.
Additionally, the TIB has asked for the temporary removal of the outer wire mesh barrier facing the Aso Rock Villa. This measure is to facilitate potential visits by protesters to the Presidential Villa, underscoring their commitment to directly addressing the nation’s leadership.
The movement’s request highlights the urgency and importance of resolving the ongoing national crisis, which they attribute to the current ruling party. The TIB hopes that their request will be granted promptly, ensuring a peaceful and impactful protest.
