Landmark College, Ikorodu, proudly celebrated the graduation of sixty-three students in a grand ceremony that underscored the virtues of discipline, resilience, and visionary aspirations.
Held in the college hall, the event was themed “Fulfilling Our Vision: A Chronicle of Determination, Perseverance, and Innovation.”
Coordinated by staff members Omolayo Ogunsanwo and Osazee Emmanuel, under the esteemed chairmanship of Alhaji Yusuf Tijani, the ceremony was a testament to the collective efforts of the college community.
The college principal, Mr. Sanni J.A., kicked off the event with an inspiring address, urging the graduates to be exemplary ambassadors of Landmark College.
“A lot has been imparted to you, and you also possess your God-given gifts and talents. You have so much to offer the world. Go forth and flourish. The world needs you—it needs your integrity, kindness, good moral standards, and compassion for others. Use these along with your other laudable skills to make humanity much better,” Sanni said.
He expressed his gratitude to the staff and parents for their invaluable support, both material and financial, in making the event a success.
The guest speaker, Ustadh Abdul-Ganiyy Raji, National Head of Dawah for NASFAT, delivered a poignant valedictory sermon emphasizing the importance of vision and character in achieving success.
“A successful student is academically, socially, morally, and spiritually sound. Success has a prize you need to pay. It does not matter the religion you belong to; to achieve success, you must have a vision. You must know where you see yourself in years to come,” he stated.
Ustadh Raji continued, “Vision gives direction in life. It guides your plan and goal at the university. Character will draw good people to you and make them love you. No matter what you know, if you lack character, people will run away from you.”
Pastor Samuel Ughiobhe highlighted the crucial role of discipline in achieving greatness.
“Discipline enables you to have moral control. It takes good morals for a student to attain great heights. In every area of life, including your educational pursuits, you must be disciplined. Without discipline, there is a likelihood for you to miss the path,” he cautioned.
Concluding his valedictory sermon, Pastor Ughiobhe warned against shortcuts to success.
“Do not cut any corners. You must pay a price. No one pays the price and does not take the prize. You have paid a price; that is why you are receiving a prize today,” he concluded.
The Chairman of the event, Alhaji Yusuf Tijani, reflected on the journey of the graduating students, recalling the challenges they faced and overcame with determination and perseverance.
“Despite the myriad economic and social challenges our nation has been facing, we have been provided for, protected, and preserved.”
Mrs. Margaret Ademosu, a member of the college board of governors, offered heartfelt congratulations and practical advice for future success.
“The first thing you need in life is the fear of God. A day without God is a day without blessings. You must always begin your daily activities with a prayer,” she urged.
She continued, “Always obey God. Read the holy books daily and meditate on them. Another thing is to get your priorities right and choose wisely. The choices you make now will determine your future. Embrace discipline and remain good ambassadors.”
Dr. Adewale Tiamiyu, the guest lecturer from the Department of European Languages and Integration Studies, spoke on the interplay of nature and nurture in shaping the students’ lives.
“To create a vision, you must set a goal and renew the goal. Always be an agent of change that the world is waiting for. Believe you are unique. Lastly, emulate godly and humanity-friendly achievers,” he advised.
He emphasized the importance of determination in the face of challenges. “Success requires a determination of mind. It is a consistent inner force fueled by principles, logic, prayers, good advice, good companies, and morals,” he said.
The event was graced by dignitaries such as Chief J.J Obasa, Chairman of Skylink Children School; Mr. Isiaka Oyebamiji, Chairman and CEO of Landmark College, Ikorodu; and Alhaji Nurudeen Fagbenro, Chairman of Thames Valley College.
The ceremony featured musical presentations, dance performances, and readings from the Bible and Qur’an.
The highlight was the presentation of prizes and the cutting of the graduation cake, marking a memorable milestone for the graduates and the entire Landmark College community.
