In a vibrant and heartwarming ceremony held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, Abacus Scholars, a prominent nursery and primary school situated on Ishawo Road in Agric, Ikorodu, Lagos, celebrated the graduation of twenty pupils across all the classes.
The annual valedictorian service, coordinated by Mrs Olufunmi Oshinloye, brought together a diverse audience of dignitaries, esteemed guests, parents, and pupils, marking a significant milestone in the lives of the young graduates.
The ceremony commenced with a professional hymn, setting a tone of reverence and celebration.
Mrs. Grace Phillips, the school Proprietress, delivered an inspiring opening speech, expressing her gratitude to the attendees and highlighting the collective efforts of the dedicated staff that made the event possible.
“The pupils of this great institution remain our greatest asset. We do everything to ensure that every child is well taken care of. We operate an open-door policy where every parent can approach the school head on any matter concerning the children,” Mrs. Phillips remarked. She emphasised the school’s commitment to nurturing and supporting its students.
Mrs Phillips also took the opportunity to remind the graduating pupils to uphold good conduct and carry the values of Abacus Scholars as they move forward in their educational journeys.
The guest speaker, Sarah Ajimo, a professional education consultant, delivered a poignant speech centered on the theme of love. She urged the gathering to cultivate love for themselves, their families, relatives, neighbours, and the nation as a whole.
“Love is an unconditional feeling you have for someone. Love is without any conditions, and before you love someone, it must start from you. You have to start by loving yourself,” she stated, drawing a connection between self-love and the broader societal issues of banditry and insurgency.
Ajimo’s insightful remarks shed light on the importance of love in fostering peace and unity. “Whoever loves themselves will not strap a bomb and detonate it somewhere when they know that they die,” she said.
She underscored the role of love in preventing violence and promoting national harmony.
She called on the audience to embrace love for their country and their neighbours, advocating for a more compassionate and unified society.
The event was filled with memorable activities, including cultural dances, musical performances, a fashion parade, and speeches by select pupils. These performances showcased the talents and creativity of the pupils, adding a festive spirit to the occasion.
The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of certificates to the graduating pupils, symbolising their accomplishments and the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. This was followed by the cutting of a cake, marking the culmination of a joyous and inspiring event.
