The police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, revealed that the notorious Black Axe cult group is preparing to commemorate their Founder’s Day on June 7, which has raised concerns about public safety.
According to intelligence reports, the Black Axe cult, also known as the Neo-Black Movement (NBM) or Aiye, is planning a nationwide event called “Aiye Day” or “7/7”. This event is expected to be observed in all states, particularly in higher institutions of learning. The command is fully aware of the violent nature of this confraternity, notorious for its involvement in campus killings, inter-cult clashes, and other criminal activities.
The police command has received information indicating that the cult group intends to forcefully initiate innocent victims into their ranks during the commemoration. Additionally, clashes with rival cults are highly anticipated on the same day. This poses a significant threat to public peace and safety, especially in tertiary institutions across the country.
To tackle this potential crisis, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olatunji Disu, has issued directives to all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and tactical team commanders. They have been instructed to conduct pre-emptive and responsive raids to disrupt the planned event, apprehend suspected cultists, and bring them to justice.
The pre-emptive measures will focus on cult hideouts, high-risk areas, and hotels that could potentially serve as meeting points for cult leaders.
