Troops of the Nigerian Army have made significant strides in the ongoing fight against terrorism and insurgency in Imo and Kwara States.
The combined efforts of the military and other security forces have led to the arrest of key figures within the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), alongside the seizure of a considerable cache of weapons and ammunition.
Key Operations and Arrests
In a targeted raid, troops captured notorious kingpins Izuchukwu Emejuru, aka “Kingkong,” and Chibuzor Chikwe, alias “Onyema.” The operation yielded a semi-automatic pump-action gun, a locally made gun, and a pistol. Troops also recovered valuable items belonging to Eze Ogberuru, whose palace had previously been desecrated and burned by ESN elements.
In another decisive raid in Ezeinyen Okwe Umucheke, troops neutralized a suspected IPOB/ESN kingpin known as Chinemerem, aka “Bam Bam,” during an attempted attack. The raid resulted in the arrest of several accomplices and the seizure of a substantial amount of weapons, ammunition, and IPOB/ESN paraphernalia. The hideout was subsequently destroyed.
Troops intercepted suspected IPOB/ESN terrorists in Amausa. Overpowered in a shootout, the terrorists fled, abandoning ammunition and motorcycles. Recovered items included 72 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm (NATO) ammunition, four rounds of 7.62 mm (Special), three rounds of 5.56mm, an FN rifle, a pair of military desert boots, and a green beret.
In a related operation, troops tracked and arrested a suspected terrorist identified as Ibrahim Abdullahi. The operation led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, magazines, and ammunition.
These successful operations highlight the synergy and unwavering commitment of Nigeria’s security forces in tackling the multifaceted challenges posed by terrorist groups and criminal elements.
