The Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso has temporarily halted the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye, and his council of kingmakers from removing the Chief Imam, Sheik Teliat Yunus Ayilara, amidst a heated supremacy battle.
Justice K.B. Olawoyin issued an injunction in response to a lawsuit filed by the “Registered Trustees of Ogbomoso Muslim Youths Forum.”
The Muslim group sought judicial intervention to prevent the traditional ruler and his council from ousting the Chief Imam.
The court case, numbered HOG/31/2024, pits the Ogbomoso Muslim Youths Forum against the Soun and his council. The judge’s ruling explicitly restrains the defendants from any actions that could disturb or remove the Chief Imam, pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice.
Justice Olawoyin emphasized the court’s decision to protect the current officeholder, Alhaji Yunus Olusina Ayilara, from interference, allowing him to continue his duties unimpeded. The case has been adjourned for further hearing on July 1, 2024, marking a crucial date for both parties involved in this dispute.
