The Nigeria Police Force is reeling from a grievous assault on one of its officers at Chevron Roundabout, Lekki, on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has voiced his strong disapproval of this heinous act and has pledged unwavering support for the protection of officers’ rights.
The perpetrator, 47-year-old Oluwaseun Jacobs, a cobbler from Ajah, has been swiftly arrested and arraigned in court.
Jacobs faces a three-count charge including assault occasioning bodily harm and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

He is currently remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending further legal proceedings, with the case adjourned until July 8, 2024.
IGP Egbetokun emphasized that the safety of police officers is paramount and assured that any assaults on officers would be met with the full force of the law. He reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to upholding justice and protecting its officers, ensuring that such embarrassing incidents will not be tolerated.
In a stern warning to the public, the IGP urged citizens to respect the role of the police in maintaining law and order. He called for cooperation in creating a safer and more secure society, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to protecting lives and property.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, reaffirmed the NPF’s mission to uphold justice and the rule of law, promising further updates as the legal proceedings continue.
