In a significant crackdown, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a group of impostors posing as State House staff in Abuja for an elaborate employment scam involving N22.35 million.
The suspects, charged with criminal conspiracy and false representation, promised victims high-profile jobs in various ministries and corporations, including the Ministry of Communication, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
Key suspects include Augustine Enamegbai Umogboi, who falsely claimed to be a former State House staffer; Eleojo Josephine Idakwo, posing as a Ministry of Information employee; and Kingsley Onuh, who pretended to have recently completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Other implicated individuals are Omata Sunday and Eljayon Nigeria Limited, whose bank accounts were used to collect money from victims.
The EFCC’s investigation, sparked by multiple victim petitions, revealed that the suspects had multiple bank accounts to receive payments for the fraudulent job offers. Umogboi was apprehended on June 16, 2024, Idakwo on April 30, 2024, and Onuh on April 3, 2024.
One petition detailed how Mr. Gabriel Kingsley Onuh and Eleojo Josephine Idakwo promised positions at NNPCL and FRSC in exchange for fees. Another victim reported being asked for N5 million for a supposed Director General position in the Ministry of Communication.
The suspects are providing useful information to the EFCC and will be charged upon the investigation’s conclusion.
