In a swift operation, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) last night apprehended a man for attempted murder after he brutally attacked a 65-year-old man with a hammer near Pako Bus Stop, Iyana Ipaja.
The suspect, 29-year-old Sodiq Ishola, was detained around 8:30 PM on Monday after being restrained from causing further harm to his victim.
The incident unfolded as Ishola and an unidentified accomplice trailed the victim and his wife from Lagos Island to Iyana Ipaja on a motorcycle.
Upon arrival, Ishola launched a vicious assault on the elderly man, inflicting severe head injuries. Fortunately, RRS operatives patrolling the area intervened promptly, preventing further harm and securing the arrest of Ishola.
The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment for his injuries.
Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that Ishola and his accomplice had meticulously planned the attack, following the couple for a considerable distance before executing their assault. The motive behind the attack remains unclear at this stage.
The suspect has been transferred to the RRS Headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja. According to the RRS Commander, CSP Yinka Egbeyemi, Ishola will be handed over to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) for further investigations to uncover the full details of the crime and apprehend the accomplice.
