Speaking after the Eid prayer alongside Emir of Daura, Dr. Faruk Umar Faruk, Buhari expressed his pleasure at the rising number of Nigerians engaged in farming. “I am pleased that more Nigerians have taken to farming to bring prices down and feed the nation,” he said. However, he warned that uncontrolled population growth poses a significant threat to the country’s future.
Buhari extended his Sallah greetings to the nation, wishing everyone joy, prosperity, and good health. He encouraged citizens to support local agriculture and continue efforts toward national self-sufficiency. “This is not the time to relent when we see prices going up. Let us buy what is produced in the country,” he urged.
The former president also called on the youth to be active in nation-building and to draw inspiration from Nigeria’s founding fathers and regional leaders. Reflecting on the large Eid crowds, Buhari highlighted the pressing issue of population growth and its potential consequences. “There is a need for greater discussion and awareness about this problem, as well as a need to invest more in education and health,” he stated.
In his address to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, who traditionally visit him during Sallah, Buhari praised the scheme as a unifying force in Nigeria. He urged future administrations to strengthen the NYSC, calling it one of General Yakubu Gowon’s greatest achievements. Continuing his annual tradition, Buhari donated a cow, 10 bags of rice, and cash to the NYSC members for their celebrations.
