The Anambra State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Obono Itam, has issued a stern warning to residents against participating in any protest that could disrupt public peace and national unity.
CP Itam emphasized the importance of maintaining public order and safeguarding the fundamental rights of all citizens. Following a critical threat analysis, the Command has identified potential mobilizations for protests on June 12, 2024, that could paralyze commercial activities and obstruct traffic across the state.
“We urge Ndi Anambra and all residents to dissociate themselves from activities that could threaten public peace. The Police Command is committed to upholding the fundamental rights of all individuals, including freedom of movement and dignity,” CP Itam stated.
In anticipation of possible unrest, the Anambra Police have deployed operatives to strategic locations to ensure safety, facilitate the free flow of traffic, and maintain a peaceful environment. While acknowledging the rights of individuals and groups to advocate for their interests, CP Itam stressed the importance of adhering to laws governing public demonstrations.
“On this Democracy Day, we commend the cooperation of Ndi Anambra in maintaining peace and urge them to remain vigilant and law-abiding. We encourage continued partnership with the Police and other security agencies to combat criminality and ensure public security,” CP Itam added.
