The eagerly anticipated journey for Nigerian pilgrims to the holy sites of Hajj in Saudi Arabia has commenced with the arrival of the first batch at the Prince Mohammed Ibn Abdu-Aziz International Airport in Madina.
The inaugural flight, Flynas, landed at 12 AM Nigerian time, carrying 422 pilgrims from Kebbi State.
Welcoming the pilgrims on behalf of Nigeria, Ambassador Mahmoud Lele Mohammed and Consul General Ambassador Ibrahim Sule Dan Agundi, along with officials from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), were present at the airport to receive and extend warm greetings to the pilgrims.
In his address to the pilgrims, Ambassador Mahmoud Lele urged them to uphold good conduct and be exemplary representatives of Nigeria during their sacred pilgrimage. Similarly, Consul General Amb. Sule Dan Agundi encouraged the pilgrims to pray for their nation and leaders, emphasising the significance of this spiritual journey.
Upon arrival at their accommodations, the pilgrims were treated to a grand ceremonial reception by the hotel management, marking the beginning of their Hajj experience in Saudi Arabia.
The arrival of the Kebbi State contingent was just the start, as two additional flights later landed in Madina carrying pilgrims from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Nasarawa State, further enriching the diverse representation of Nigerian pilgrims participating in the Hajj this year.
As the pilgrims settle into their accommodation, they are expected to engage in religious activities, including visits to the Prophet’s Mosque and other historically significant sites during their four-day stay in Madina.
This milestone underscores the significance of the Hajj pilgrimage and the strong representation of Nigerian Muslims in this annual spiritual journey to the holy land of Islam.
