A Nigerian lady, Onyedikachi Susan, has shared her ordeal with Opay, a popular financial platform in Nigeria, which has withheld her funds needed urgently for her father’s surgery.
Speaking to The Naijanews.org, Susan highlighted the challenges faced with the financial institution.
According to Susan, she embarked on a savings using Opay’s “save on target” feature, designed to lock funds until reaching a specific goal.
She explained that after diligently saving up to ₦500,000, she anticipated the release of her funds on May 9th.
“However, instead of promptly receiving my money, Opay unexpectedly added ₦11,000 as interest, pushing my balance beyond the target and requiring an upgrade to Tier 3,” she lamented.
To facilitate the upgrade, Opay requested a utility bill as proof of address. Susan noted that she promptly submitted her electricity bill, expecting a swift resolution.
Unfortunately, her upgrade request has languished in “review” status for nearly two weeks, obstructing her access to essential funds earmarked for her father’s medical treatment.
Desperate and frustrated, Susan lamented, “I needed that money for my dad’s surgery but Opay keeps pending my upgrade thereby making it impossible for me to withdraw my money.”
“If I didn’t have another account, I don’t know how I would have managed in these past few days. I desperately need assistance because Opay’s customer care is unresponsive to my messages and calls. They repeatedly tell me to wait for one working day, but it has been two weeks of waiting with no resolution,” she lamented.
Despite repeated attempts to contact Opay’s customer service via messages and calls, Susan has encountered silence and unhelpful responses, with representatives continuously promising resolution within one working day, which has now stretched into a prolonged waiting period.
