In a dramatic turn of events, the Lagos State Police Command apprehended Habeeb Okikiola, widely recognized as Portable, on Tuesday, for defaulting on a significant sum owed for a luxury G-Wagon purchase.
Portable, a notable figure in the Nigerian music scene, allegedly failed to settle a balance of N14 million after an initial payment of N13 million for the vehicle, priced at N27 million.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Portable repeatedly evaded payment by claiming the vehicle was defective whenever the car dealer contacted him about settling the outstanding amount. Frustrated by Portable’s persistent avoidance, the car dealer escalated the issue by lodging a complaint with law enforcement.
Confirming the arrest, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer for Lagos State, disclosed that Portable’s detention stemmed from his failure to fulfill the agreed payment terms.
Hundeyin stated, “Yes, Portable has been arrested. He bought a G-Wagon for N27 million, paid N13 million, and refused to pay the rest, claiming the vehicle was bad. We arrested him today.”
The arrest of Portable, known for his energetic performances and widespread popularity, underscores the importance of adhering to financial commitments and contractual obligations.
