In response to a fervent public complaint, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has taken decisive action by sealing off the administrative and kitchen facilities of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Jesus Sanctuary in Masha, Surulere, Lagos.
The enforcement was triggered by the church alleged indiscriminate discharge of wastewater into the surrounding environment, a violation of the Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017.
The unchecked release of wastewater poses significant risks to public health and environmental integrity, as highlighted by the LSWMO.
“This illicit practice can lead to soil pollution and groundwater contamination, thereby fostering the spread of waterborne diseases such as cholera, dysentery, and diarrhea among the local populace,” LSWMO said in a statement.
This stern action underscores the Lagos State government’s commitment to safeguarding environmental health and promoting sustainable practices within communities.
