In a heartwarming scene, villagers in Nigeria’s Northeast region celebrated the return of Nigerian soldiers who had completed a successful mission as part of Operation Desert Sanity III. The troops, deployed to counter insurgents in the challenging Sambisa and Timbuktu Triangle areas, were greeted with cheers and jubilation upon their return.
The Nigerian Army shared details of the operation through an official video posted on their X account last Friday. The caption accompanying the video expressed gratitude from local communities towards the heroic soldiers who played a pivotal role in securing the region.
“Operation Desert Sanity III,” aimed at neutralizing insurgent threats and bolstering security, concluded with a significant victory for the nation’s security forces. As part of this operation, troops executed a daring rescue mission, saving Lydia Simon, a student abducted from the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok. The rescue took place near Ngoshe in Borno State’s Gwoza Local Government Area, bringing hope and relief to the community.
Furthermore, recent reports highlighted the capture of a Boko Haram/Islamic State of West African Province stronghold by these dedicated soldiers. Both air and ground units collaborated on a meticulous clearance mission, targeting the terrorist stronghold situated along the Ngumne, Kawaran, and Mangu axes within the challenging terrain of the Sambisa Forest and Timbuktu Triangle.
