In a proactive move aimed at combating the escalating impacts of climate change, Odiolowo-Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has partnered with the non-governmental organisation Vaness Integrated Resources Limited to host comprehensive Awareness Action Training in Climate Change.
The event, held today was spearheaded by Environmental and Youth Advocate Mr Monday Kanu. The training emphasised the urgent need for collective action in addressing the environmental degradation and other negative consequences wrought by climate change on various facets of society.
Kanu, the convener of the training, emphasized the critical role of public engagement in combating climate change, stressing that it has become imperative for all stakeholders to actively participate in preserving the planet.
The training boasted an impressive lineup of speakers, including esteemed personnel from Lagos State University and seasoned professionals, committed to delivering high-quality insights on climate change mitigation strategies.
Addressing a captivated audience, Hon Seyi Jakande, the Vice-Chairman of the LCDA, standing in for Chairman, Hon Rasaq Ajala (HRA), extended a warm welcome to attendees and highlighted the profound impacts of climate change on daily life.
He elucidated how rising temperatures have led to severe heatwaves, dehydration, and significant challenges in agriculture.
Jakande emphasised the pivotal role of awareness and training in sensitising communities to the grave threats posed by global warming across multiple sectors.
“We are all ambassadors of change,” declared Jakande, urging participants to disseminate the knowledge gained to their families and communities.
Adding further depth to the discussion, Mrs Afolake Otenaike, the Council Manager, underscored the enduring benefits of ongoing tree planting initiatives initiated by former Governor Raji Fashola.
She emphasised the crucial role of sustained environmental conservation efforts in mitigating the adverse effects of climate change.
Participants were then ushered into intensive training sessions, poised to equip them with practical tools and insights to tackle the challenges posed by climate change.
