The collision involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration GUE 59 ZY and a stationary truck marked with registration number BGT 94 LG.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson, Mrs. Florence Okpe, disclosed the details of the accident to reporters in Abeokuta. According to her, the crash occurred around 12:10 pm and was primarily attributed to excessive speeding by the bus driver, resulting in a collision with the parked truck.
Out of the fifteen individuals involved in the accident—comprising ten men and five women—thirteen sustained varying degrees of injuries, while tragically, two individuals lost their lives. The injured victims were swiftly transported to Hope Hospital located at J4 for urgent medical attention. Meanwhile, the deceased were taken to the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital Morgue.
Mr. Anthony Uga, the Sector Commander of the FRSC, issued a stern caution to motorists regarding the hazardous practice of incorrect parking along the expressway. He emphasized the critical need for responsible driving, advising against speeding to prevent such tragic incidents.
The authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
