A 25-year-old suspected cultist succumbed to his injuries, further escalating tensions in the Ajegunle area. The tragic incident unfolded amidst heightened police efforts to quell the unrest that has gripped the community.
According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State police spokesperson, the confrontation erupted on Friday when cultists from Nasamu and Iyalode Streets clashed in Boundary Roundabout, Ajegunle.
This encounter resulted in severe damage to six commercial vehicles, adding to the chaos that ensued.
Law enforcement swiftly responded to distress calls, deploying teams to the scene to contain the violence. Many of the combatants dispersed upon the arrival of the police, but authorities managed to apprehend two suspects at their hideouts.
Among the casualties was a critically injured 25-year-old individual, rescued from the scene and rushed to a nearby hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
SP Hundeyin emphasized that stability has been reinstated in the affected areas through the deployment of foot patrols and increased vehicular surveillance to preempt any further disturbances. The police have launched an investigation into the incident, with a concerted effort underway to capture the remaining fleeing cultists and bring them to justice.
