In a move to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration, the Federal Government of Nigeria has announced Tuesday, 9th, and Wednesday, 10th April 2024, as public holidays nationwide.
This declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government in Abuja.
In an official statement released by the Ministry of Interior and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Aishetu Gogo-Ndayako, the Minister extended heartfelt congratulations to the Muslim Ummah for the successful completion of the fasting period during the holy month of Ramadan.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized the importance of embodying and practicing the values of kindness, love, tolerance, peace, good neighbourliness, and compassion, which were exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him).
He urged all Nigerians, regardless of religious affiliations, to embrace unity and work towards achieving peace and harmony within the nation.
During the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, Muslims traditionally gather for prayers, feasting, and family gatherings to mark the end of Ramadan.
The minister’s message underscores the significance of fostering unity and mutual respect among citizens, reflecting on the teachings of Islam.
