Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State disclosed the demise of the esteemed monarch, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Mohood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The traditional ruler breathed his last on Thursday evening at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, marking the end of an era in the history of Ibadan.
Governor Makinde paid tribute to Oba Dr. Balogun, hailing him as an emblem of regal distinction and notable accomplishments during his relatively short reign of just over two years.
He expressed heartfelt condolences to the Olubadan-in-Council, the Oyo State Traditional Council, and the entire populace of Ibadanland and Oyo State, urging for solace and strength during this period of mourning.
Describing the late Olubadan as a towering figure in Ibadan’s cultural landscape, the Governor lamented the loss of a visionary leader who left an indelible imprint on the heritage of Ibadanland.
He referred to Oba Dr. Balogun as a “mighty Iroko” whose legacy will endure through the annals of time.
With profound reverence, Governor Makinde beseeched divine mercy upon the departed monarch’s soul, invoking blessings of peace and eternal rest.
The announcement sent ripples of sorrow across Ibadan, as citizens grappled with the news of their revered ruler’s passing.
The Special Adviser (Media) to the Oyo State Governor, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, relayed the announcement on behalf of the state government, underscoring the deep sense of loss felt by all.
