In a significant development within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Najeem Usman Yasin, the former president of the union, has officially announced Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, as the new national president. This declaration came to light during a public event on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.
Addressing the gathered audience, Najeem disclosed that the union’s leadership successfully mediated the longstanding dispute between MC Oluomo and Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, also known as Sego.
As a result of this reconciliation effort, Sego has been declared as the chairman of the NURTW Lagos state chapter.
Najeem urged the immediate past president and his vice president to vacate the national secretariat, emphasizing the need for a smooth transition within the union’s leadership structure.

He elaborated on the exhaustive steps taken by the leadership to address the internal conflicts, including formal complaints lodged with various governmental bodies such as the Nigerian Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Federal Ministry of Labour, Employment and Productivity, Vice President’s office, National Security Adviser, Ministry of Defence, and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). However, these efforts failed to yield positive outcomes.
“Akinsanya and Sego were at a meeting with me yesterday. We have resolved the matter between them. And I am saying it publicly that MC is the national president while Sego will serve as the Lagos state chairman,” Najeem declared, underscoring the finality of the decision.
The announcement marks a pivotal moment in the NURTW’s leadership landscape, signifying a concerted effort to foster unity and stability within the organization. With MC Oluomo assuming the helm as the national president and Sego taking on the role of Lagos state chairman, the union aims to embark on a new chapter of cooperation and progress.
