Vigilant residents of a Lagos estate have discovered an armed robber hiding in a drainage system, raising concerns about security measures in the area.
A video shared on Facebook captures the tense moment as community members discovered the intruder.
The incident unfolded as pedestrians returning home at night observed suspicious movements within the estate’s gutter.

Swiftly sounding the alarm, the concerned residents gathered, drawing attention to the scene. The estate security personnel were promptly notified and swiftly arrived at the scene.
As the estate officers confirmed the presence of the armed robber in the drainage system, tensions escalated. Taking decisive action, one of the security officers brandished his firearm, firing a shot before the culprit emerged.
Expressing her shock, a resident recounted the unnerving experience, questioning the perceived safety of the estate. She remarked, “A lot of things went through my head. I feel the safest whenever I am in my estate because the security I believed was ‘tight.’ Now, if these guys hadn’t seen him run under the gutter, the thief could have waited there, waited for the next car to enter the gate and appeared. So we have to be checking under the gutters now?”
Further investigation revealed that the armed robber had infiltrated one of the houses on the street, making off with valuable items, including two passports (one Nigerian and another foreign), an iPhone, a Samsung phone, and cash. The motive behind his desperate actions was linked to signs of hardship and desperation, raising concerns about the escalating challenges amid the ongoing recession and economic crisis.
