BBC Africa Eye has brought to light a series of alleged “unimaginable atrocities” committed by the late Prophet TB Joshua, founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN).
The revelations, unveiled through a three-episode documentary, delve into accusations of sexual abuse, harassment, rape, manipulation, and staged miracles, shedding light on the church’s response to these grave allegations.
The news organization teased the investigation on social media over the weekend, stating, “A maze of manipulation. Unimaginable atrocities. One of the most powerful religious figures of the 21st century. #BBCAfricaEye investigates. Three films. One podcast. Coming tomorrow. Nothing stays hidden forever.”
The first part of the documentary, released on Monday, January 8, promises to feature testimonies from at least 30 former members and workers of SCOAN.
The church, once a local evangelical in the Ikotun-Egbe area of Lagos State, transformed into a multimillion-dollar establishment with a global following.
The investigation explores how SCOAN allegedly shielded its congregation from the truth surrounding the collapse of one of the church’s guesthouses in 2014.
This revelation brings to light concerns about transparency within the influential religious organization.
Prophet TB Joshua, born on June 12, 1963, in Ondo State, passed away on June 5, 2021. His legacy, tarnished by the recent allegations, has triggered discussions about the intricate dynamics of power and influence within religious institutions.
In August 2021, Reverend Chris Okotie, senior pastor of the Household of God Church International Ministries, labeled Joshua as a magician who disguised himself as a minister of God.
