Adamu Musa, Chairman of the Association of Sugarcane Dealers in Bauchi, revealed optimistic projections for the sugarcane market, estimating sales to reach a staggering N700 million between September 2023 and February 2024.
Musa highlighted the market’s daily turnover, emphasizing its economic significance by noting that goods worth N5 million are traded daily.
The sugarcane market serves as a vital source of livelihood for over 5000 individuals, encompassing dealers, traders, harvesters, and those engaged in various support activities.
During the interview, Musa shed light on the extensive network of suppliers, with major contributions coming from Bauchi, Alkaleri, Kirfi, Tafawa Balewa, Darazo, Giade, Ganjuwa, and Zaki local government areas.
The sugarcane harvest season, which spans from September to February annually, becomes a focal point for the community’s economic activity.
Musa proudly detailed the market’s positive impact, not only in terms of direct employment but also as a catalyst for other industries.
Local producers of mattresses and pillows rely on the market for resources, while researchers and investors frequent the market to gather essential materials for their projects.
Furthermore, the chairman applauded the market’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
The introduction of an incinerator system for waste disposal reflects a conscious effort to curb air pollution and ensure the well-being of residents.
