The National Universities Commission (NUC) has disavowed a purported list of fake professors circulating in Nigerian universities.
The commission categorically dismissed the claims as baseless, attributing the misinformation to mischief makers and affirming that it did not originate from the NUC without proper consultation with accredited universities.
Dr. Noel Abiodun Saliu, Deputy Executive Secretary in Charge of the Academic Directorate, clarified that the information should be regarded as mischievous and unfounded.
He asserted that the publication is likely the work of individuals seeking to tarnish the hard-earned reputation of the prestigious institutions mentioned, as well as undermine the crucial role of the apex regulatory educational agency.
In an official statement released by Adetunji Adeleye, Deputy Director of the Corporate Affairs Directorate at Redeemer’s University in Ede, Osun State, the institution vehemently rejected and denounced any association with the alleged fake professors.
Adeleye clarified that the individuals listed as professors in Redeemer’s University were neither staff members nor have they ever worked for the university in any capacity.
The public was duly warned against engaging with these falsely identified professors, with Adeleye cautioning that any dealings with them would be at one’s own risk.
Emphasizing the importance of verifying information, he urged the general public to cross-check facts with the NUC, the apex regulatory educational body overseeing universities in Nigeria.
As the controversy unfolds, this development underscores the necessity of vigilance against fake news and highlights the NUC’s role in upholding the integrity of higher education institutions in the country.
